Lake Matthews CA G2

From the series Lakes and Reservoirs

Grid of twelve chromogenic development prints
Overall: 75 × 140 in. (190.5 × 355.6 cm)
Frame (each): 20 × 30 in. (50.8 × 76.2 cm)
Label TextMatthew Brandt mixes traditional photographic techniques with matter extracted from the subjects he photographs. The prints in Lake Matthews CA G2 were processed and/or submerged in water from the lake that they depict. Similarly, the two From Dust works incorporate debris from the buildings currently on the sites pictured in the archival photographs that he used to create negatives for printing. In both bodies of work, Brandt injects his photographs with permanent reminders of their sources in the real world.
