Inscriptions recto (handwritten in pen, on image mount): Once upon a time, the King of a certain country, finding the inhabitants of an outlying province were suffering much from the instabilities of the climate + attacks of a troublesome enemy, commanded them to repair a body to the capital promising to establish them according to their claims which should he duly consider + in a beautiful district safe from inroads, giving orders that one the day they should consider [crossed out] rise [?] and each others as brothers + equals like among at their destination when their separate claims to dist[?] should be duly discussed + arranged, for the better carrying of the scheme some were intrusted [sic] with various superior powers in order that they might help the [?[ focused on the Road, this [?] how the search was affected, unhappily we leave unknown since then;
