Frank Robbins, Oil City, Pa." "No. 53" "Refining Oil." "The stills of
a Refinery are built of heavy boiler plate iron, and capaple [sic] of
withstanding a high degree of heat. These stills have a capacity of
1,400 bbls, and are filled with crude oil; the fires beneath are
started, and distillation soon commences. As the oil is heated it
changes into vapor which passes from the still into long tubes, or
pipes, immersed in cold water, where it condenses into liquid. ..."
