Inscribed in black ink on mount, L: B 35. Castle dell' Ovo on a small rocky island. The name is due \ to its oval shape Begun as a fort in 1154. Frederick II used it \ as a place of safety for his wives and treasures. Chas. III in 1381 \ kept Queen Johanna I prisoner and was himself besieged. It is \ now chiefly used as a prison. The interior is of little interest.
