When he selected an Elliot Erwitt \ photograph to be included in LOOKING AT PHOTOGRAPHS: \ 100 Pictures From the Collection of The Museum of Modern Art, \ Mr. Szarkowski pointed out that "faced with a contradiction \ between what he sees and what he reads, the average person will \ ignore what he sees." Erwitt does not and his photographs are \ the inspired comments of a great humorist. \ Elliot Erwitt is one of the world's most distinguished photog- \ raphers and photojournalists. Born in France in 1928, he has been \ a member of Magnum since 1953. His works have been collected \ and exhibited by major museums throughout the world. \ The images in this portfolio were selected by Mr. Erwitt and \ represent his RECENT DEVELOPMENTS.
