CANADA-1944 [underlined] \ 19 miles north of Skagway, well on the way up \ to White Pass, this steel cantilever bridge \ crosses Dead Horse Gulch, 215 feet below. This is \ part of the old trail of '98 to the Klondyke [sic] on wheels \ many men and horses lost their lives. The railroad \ was originally built to facilitate the trip for \ these gold seekers. The bridge is the most northerly \ of its kind and height in the world. This picture was taken \ from the caboose behind a rotary plough. Our \ set up was a rotary, a freight train, and \ four engines necessary to pull us up \ the mountain. The train split up \ and went over in sections to \ avoid accidents from overweight. \ The rotary can be seen ahead.
