Inscriptions Printed in ink on mount verso, C: VIEWS IN CHINA. \ 27 \ CANTON. \ Joss House. \ This view is taken from the locality called teh Centre Gate. A considerable \ damage was done to this Joss House during the bombardment, but it suffered \ most by the act of one of teh Braves, who, thinking the building occupied by some \ of the Barbarians, sought to distinguish himself by throwing a bag of gunpowder \ into the interior; the explosion that ensued demolished a great portion of the \ edifice. \ ENT.
