Inscriptions Typed in black ink on applied label, verso BC: (China) 11/61 1) IMPATIENT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS in Peking plunged \ into a muddy swamp to make their own swimming pool instead \ of waiting for machinery which was not yet available. They \ dragged out box loads of mud over improvised wooden rails. \ Cartier-Bresson's guide was most embarrassed at having \ photographs taken of the students in such informal dress; \ he kept protesting that the machinery would arrive. Principal \ task of this 60-year-old university is the training of \ scientists and engineers in 13 departments and 32 labor- \ atories. \ Credit: Cartier-Bresson © 1961 MAGNUM Photos
