Inscriptions verso-(applied typed label) "X-259 (lined out)" "Walking Home."
(portion of typed caption lined out) "In Serbia in December 1918, one
saw everywhere along the main highway, groups of convalescent soldiers
with uniforms and shoes in all stages of disrepair, weak, dependent
for food upon the villages through which they passed, trudging
bravely along. Many were obviously foot-sore, weary, and ill. Patient
resignation, quiet determination, uncomplaining acquiescence, were
written in every line of their faces and figures."
