mount-recto (printed label) "In and Around Peking. A description of
views taken by Thos. Child. No. 17. Bronze Lions. These lions are
placed on either side of the East Gate of the Summer Palace. "Wan-
Shou-Shan." They are about 6 feet high and stand on a marble pedestal
of 5 feet. The Bronze is of the finest workmanship and as smooth as
glass, it affords no clue as to the mode of casting."
