Inscriptions recto (black ink): "Old John Burns" The "Hero of Gettysburg-" Fought with the Union troops, using his old flint-lock because the rebels killed his cow. wounded 3. times. Refused to fight in the woods but went to front with the skimishers [sic], he said "I know how to fight I have "fit" before." Over 70 years of age.
