DescriptionAlbum containing mostly commercial albumen views of scenery and architecture by Charles Savage, Isaiah West Taber and others which has been titled by the person who organized it "The Rounded World is Fair to See." Includes views of the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton near San Jose California, images of farms, vineyards and missions in the San Gabriel Valley, 14 views relating to San Francisco and several of British Columbia. Of note are five cyanotypes of Isleta Pueblo Indians of New Mexico, believed to be made by Charles Fletcher Lummis. Many of the images are hand-captioned in an idiosyncratic lettering style, also includes some verses of poetry in the same hand. Last portion (21 images) of the album are photo reproductions of art work by Pre-Raphaelite and 19th Century Salon painters. Album boards are very acidic, crumbling around the edges, some pages detached. Includes note written at the time this album was gifted, dated 1889.
Please note: The cataloger numbered the album pages beginning with the front flyleaf; database records have been created for only those pages with text printed on or photographs adhered to them.
