DescriptionContains fifty-two salted paper prints by James Robertson, including seven photographs of the views Robertson made in Athens in 1854 and thirteen views in Istanbul in 1853. The album is largely dedicated to photographs depicting various scenes, including portraits and battlefields, from the Crimean War, which Robertson (and in 1856 Felice Beato) photographed intermittently from 1855 to 1856. A manuscript list of the Crimea views in Robertson's hand is laid in to the album. Bound in decorated half calf stamped in blind and gilt, with brown mottled boards and blue marbled endpapers.
Inscriptions Inscribed in pencil (Cromer's hand) on verso of front free endpaper, BL-BR: D'après une lettre écrite par P. H. Emerson, en date du 31 août 1934, Robertson était consul britannique à Constantinople, et de nationalité écossaise.
