1914-1916
Bound volume with gelatin silver prints
Overall: 33 x 26 x 2 cm
Gift of John Bishop
DescriptionThe Album contains 5.25 x 3 inch gelatin silver snapshots as well as some smaller formats, attached to black paper pages. These document a variety of events and activities witnessed by a young American visitor (who may have been in the military) during a two year stay, including arrival of military and diplomatic visitors, an outdoor market/grocery with dogs, and a quasi-religious ceremony with two bloodied flagellants, and a track and field event. Also of interest are snapshots of the photographer "Steve" in native dress posed with friends, several photos of groups of men posed in tank top bathing suits, two images of a Philippino girls' basketball team and other images of ethnographic "types." Two 5.75 x 3.5 inch nitrate negatives from the album (but not reproduced in the album) are stored with nitrate material. Album is in very good condition, enclosed with soft board covered in a textured black cloth.
