TextFamily: Jennings, Darien CT
During the course of a shoot we get to know each other. My subjects begin to relax and trust me as the time passes. When this image was taken, we'd been with the Jennings for about two hours. This type of photo is one of the most challenging because there are so many conventions that constrain people. It's the "line up in front of the camera and say cheese" routine. I try to get them to move by swaying back and forth like grasses in the breeze. To stir the pot we asked dad to pick up his son and turn him upside down. His sister is delighted and amazed that they can do this in their family portrait.
