Thomas Nelson, about 1922. \ Flanigan was a student in \ painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Phila \ Pa and won two Cresson Traveling Scholarships, \ the maximum, for traveling abroad.\ Competition was great, as with rising \ prices the scholarships were shrinking in \ numbers.
