TextThis was the part of Jewish Jerusalem closest to the front and the shelling was the heaviest. While the Arabs left their homes in Jaffa and Haifa after the first mortar shells, the old Jews of Jerusalem never quit their houses. They have stayed inside for 27 days and now after the cease fire they came out to collect their rations and the cease fire being on a Friday, they are preparing their trays for the Sabbath.

Robert Capa records the last hours in Jerusalem before the Cease Fire, when the city was subjected to the cruelest bombardment of the siege. The city is still linked to Israel by a mountain road that is under constant fire.
