Inscriptions Entry 254 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Early ferrotypes of Civil War officer with swords. One in colors, with colored curtain backdrop showing tents pitched for army camping. Gilt mats very nice. Have eagle & darts at top, flags with 30 stars on either side, E Pluribus Unum [?] and old-fashioned cannon with cannon balls at bottom. Gutta Percha case very lovely. Pictures woman clasping baby kneeling on grass near water, dog, also guards baby; and wicker basket, pillow & blankets. Represents Moses hidden in bulrushes being cared for by his sister Miriam. Excellent condition from family of Mrs. Armstrong. The officer pictured is Capt. Ewing Kinnear, solider in Civil War from Philadelphia. His grandparents named Easting came from Antrim Co., Ireland. Large dog guards baby which young women holds in arms. Either baby’s sister Miriam, or Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopts him, holding Baby Moses. Biblical story. Case (double) contains one tintype, one ambrotype of young couple.
