The young boys of the Karamojong in Northern Uganda are skilled goatherds. The herds are huge, but the boys know every animal and make certain that all are present when moving to a new pasture.
Should one be lost, for whatever reason, the punishment will be severe. When a birth occurs in the field, one of the boys invariably will carry the little kid cradled in his arms on the long trek back to the village.
