DescriptionThis is a portfolio of nine plates, each with four round photographic prints (8.5 cm. in diameter) arranged in an orderly two up and two down format. These show cross sections of the area of the brain known as the Medulla Oblongata and the Trapezium. There is no written or printed captions or text, apart from the label. An inscription on the front cover indicates that Dr. Dean presented it to the Photographic Society of Philadelphia, where he had been elected a corresponding member on April 6, 1864. The images and the boards are in fair-good condition, but there is considerable staining and foxing on the front cover.
