Marines can be seen about the base of the staff on which they raised/ the American flag over Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima on 23 February (ELD)./ Volcano is in foreground while flag stands out against the blue Paci-/ fic. A large Jap cave can be discerned part way down the slope./ Photo made from a U.S. Navy Liberator 24 February 1945. Film was flown/ to Guam for processing, and then radipphotedd[sic] to Sanfranciso by Navy Radio./
