Inscriptions printed in blue ink on verso, TL: FILE NUMBER 700, 103 RELEASED: JULY 30, 1945/FIRST PHOTOS!/NAVY WARSHIPS SHELL JAP HOMELAND-Destination: Japan. Enlisted men load/a 2,400-pound projectile into a 16-inch gun aboard a Navy battleship/of the IOWA class. Seconds later the missle was hurtling through the/air towards an enemy installation as the U.S. Fleet served notice on/the Japs that Death was here to stay. Putting a refinement on the pointed/reminder of enemy helplessness, even destroyers sailed up to the coast/of Japan and pounded targets ashore without drawing retaliatory fire./These photographs of the bombardment of Japan are clips from Official/U.S. Navy motion pictures soon to be released to newsreels.
