Inscriptions (note by Dwight R. Furness with photograph): Captain Fred Place: In charge of instruction when the school opened. My recollection was that in civilain life he had been a news photographer. When the war ended he took up flying and was killed while learning to fly. The last I heard his wife was living in Milwaukee.
