Inscriptions [from typed label attached to an enlargement, 2009:0170:0003, of this image]:

"Enlargement of picture taken Jan. 15, 1911 by Lt. G.E. Kelly, 30th Inf. while carried as a passenger in a Wright biplane. During the flight, the altitude record for passenger carrying was broken. The camera used was presented to Lt. Hunt by Mr. Nelson E. Dutcher. Lt. Kelly took six pictures, all of which were good. These are the first entirely successful pictures taken from an aeroplane. (Questionable WBB).

Five aeroplanes can be seen on the ground. One of them is tuning up in preparation for flight. The circle is a target for bombs. Race track in the distance. The photographer, Lt. George E. Kelly's feet and part of aviator Parmalee's foot are in the picture. The pylon below marks the course."
