Inscriptions Typed in black ink on applied label verso BC: 11/62 31) CHRISTMAS COFFEE BREAK: Sidewalk Santas of the Volunteers of\ America smoke up before raising their beards and finding their \ chimneys. Every day between Thanksgiving and Christmas almost \ 4,000 Sanatas jingle bells beside red chimneys on street corners \ across the nation. Working from early morning to late afternoon, \ these Santas, who live in shelters maintained by the organization, \ accept contributions for its charitable works. Graduates of a \ School for Santas, they must not eat garlice or onions, or smoke \ while on duty. And above all - they must not promise hopeful \ youngsters that they will receive all the presents they ask for. \ Credit: Dennis Stock © MAGNUM Photos
