*From a portrait painted by Moses Billings of Erie, at age / 75. Dobbins was Sailing-master under Perry in the Battle of / Lake Erie and had had many encounters with the British after / he settled in the wilderness of Erie in 1796, where he had accompanied Gen. Wayne, with whom he was at the time of his / death. Dobbins Islands in Green Bay are named for him.
