printed auction notice in case: DOBBINS (DANIEL-War of 1812). DAGUERREO- / TYPE, framed, with his name on a slip written by Mr. Lossing [refers to Benson J. Lossing, author of "The Pictorial Field-book of the War of 1812" published in 1868].
*From a portrait painted by Moses Billings of Erie, at age / 75. Dobbins was Sailing-master under Perry in the Battle of / Lake Erie and had had many encounters with the British after / he settled in the wilderness of Erie in 1796, where he had accompanied Gen. Wayne, with whom he was at the time of his / death. Dobbins Islands in Green Bay are named for him.
