TELEPHONE: (213) 354-5011/PHOTO CAPTION Voyager 1-81/ P-21209 C/ March 5, 1979/ This view of Io was taken on March 4 at 7:00 PM from a range of/ 862,200 kilometers (500,000 miles) by Voyager 1. It shows sub-/spacecraft longitude of approximately 146 degrees. Circular features/ are seen that may be meteorite impact craters or features of/ internal origin. Irregular depressions are seen that indicate/ surface modification has taken place. The bright irregular patches/ appear to be younger deposits masking the surface detail. JPL/ manages and controls the Voyager project for NASA's Office of/ Space Science.
