printed in blue ink on verso, BC: FILE NUMBER: 703948 / RELEASED: 16 April 1947 \ FIRST PICTURES OF ANTARCTIC LAND OF LAKES—On February 11, 1947, \ crewmen of two photographic Martin Mariners based on the USS \ CURRITUCK, planetender component of the Western Group of Operation \ Highjump sighted a forty-mile area of multicolored, ice-free lakes \ inland from the Knox Coast of the continent. Two days later a \ plane from the same group landed on one of several lakes three \ miles in length. On March 1 a second oasis was sighted five \ hundred miles west of the first, on the Ingrid Christensen Coast. \ Air view of second oasis, in Vestfeld Mountains. [upside down]
