This is Canada's first combat deployment since the Korean War. Canada has suffered one of the highest casualty rates of the war in Afghanistan and has announced that it will be pulling out all Canadian combat troops by 2011. Canada has recently began handing over these violent districts to US Forces who have begun to sustain numerous casualties. Mcpl. Gionet is one of several Canadian women who serve on the front lines, as Canada unlike many other countries allows women to serve in combat units.
