DescriptionSmall carte de visite family album containing portraits and some art reproductions, one-per-page in pre-cut slots. Most are albumen prints but there are some tintypes as well. There is a hand-written index of the sitters and subjects of the first 24 images and the later ones were identified by comparison. Two later gelatin silver images are stored in the back of the album. Members of the Saward family in mid-19th Century are sequenced in a deliberate way, individual portrait of a mother, followed by one of the father, then the older child etc. Nevertheless, some of the relationships remain obscure ones. Of note are several images of John Morley Hudson (1832 - 1907), the husband of Sarah Anne Saward. He is posed with a large unfolded page, perhaps a map that relates to his 1866 voyage with a Capt. Fitch and the dog "Fannie" on "The Red, White, and Blue", a boat that was just 26 feet long, which made an epic journey from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to the English Channel in 35 days. There is also a reproduction of a Currier and Ives print of this event.

Album and its images are in fair condition, generally somewhat faded. The binding of dark brown leather is torn and falls loose from the spine. The pages have gilded edges, fly leaves have a gold floral pattern; clasps are decorated with ornamental grape leaves.
