Inscriptions Typed in black ink on applied label, verso BC: (A Day at Camp Shriver) 7/ 62 5) HAPPY AS A CLAM, Wendell clings to Mrs. \ Shriver on his first venture into the water. With \ her back to the camera is Joan, Mrs. Shriver's other \ special charge. Wendell's mother takes turn in \ chaperoning the children brought to the Shriver \ estate in a school bus. Wendell, a retarded child, \ would not mix with other children, even his six \ brothers and sisters, nor would he help his widowed \ mother with the household chores. Now. after three weeks \ at the Shriver camp, he cooperates with his mother \ and, after finishing his taks, he asks if there is any- \ thing more he can do. He is also beginning to play \ normally with other children. "He is crazy about \ Mrs. Shriver," says his mother, "He is an entirely \ different boy since he's been to camp. God Bless \ her!" \ Credit Burt Glinn © 1962 MAGNUM Photos
