Inscriptions Typed in black ink on applied label, verso BC: (Nobel Prize) 11/61 18) A PRISONER IN HIS OWN LAND, Chief \ Luthuli has applied for a visa from the South \ African government to travel to Norway to \ receive the Nobel Peace Prize ($43,400). Ever \ since 1952, Luthuli has been confined to his \ farm in Natal. From here he has tried to run \ the work of the African National Congress, \ sending out long messages laced with Biblical \ phrases. Luthuli is the son of African missionaries in the service of the American \ Congrgationalist Church.
