Gift of Donald K. Weber, 2012
DescriptionSmall carved-wood album of mostly horizontal carte-de-visite landscapes and picturesque scenes in Austria and other areas of the Bavarian Alps, including Schaffberg, Ebensee, Hallstatt, Berchtesgaden and one view of the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth in Ischl, stored 2 per page in pre-cut slots. Each image is frames by a delicate embossed border and there is an identifying pencil inscription under nearly all of the photos. Of note are an occasional portrait type, including a woodcutter, marble cutter, water carrier and peasant girls. Album is in very good condition, binding and claps intact. This album is exceptional for its cover of roughhewn wood-and-oak leaf design resembling carved wood. The title on this cover, "Ischl" references "Ischgl", a town in the Paznaun Valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Inscriptions recto (carved in wood): ISCHL
