DescriptionSmall album with covers in McLean family tartan design, lined with peach-colored moiré silk. The album is randomly filled with carte-de-visite images in pre-cut sleeves, one-per-page and includes art reproductions by Gustav Schauer (Berlin), English ecclesiastical architecture and a few portraits, among which is a less familiar portrait of Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales in early middle-age by Disderi. There are ink inscriptions in a small, fine hand on nearly all of the 50 mounts which therefore identify all of the missing subjects as well. An occasional inscription in a later hand lists a monetary figure, which supports the notion that individual cartes-de-visite were purchased in recent times from this album and that the existing collection is the unsold part. In fact, other photographs from this album have been accessioned previously in different Donald Weber donations. Some of the images were in slots that did not correspond to the inscription. However, the strength of this album is in its condiotion, its unusual cover and fine interior lining.
