Because ninety per cent of American food / consumption passes through the hands of our / women, an appeal has been made by National / Food Administrator Hoover to the women of / the United States to stop the waste in their / kitchens and help in the saving of food for the / armies. The women have been asked to sign / food pledge cards stating they will carry out / the directions and advice of the Food Admin-/istrator in teh conduct of their households. / Upon signing this card, each woman becomes / a member of the United States Food Admin-istration, a national shield surrounded by heads of / wheat. The government expects to have this / shied displayed in every home in the nation. // Prominent women are taking the lead in this / great movement. The picture shows some women of Washington, D.C., in their new / Food Administration uniform, which al / women signing the pledge card are entitled to / wear.
