Soviet mural, Bilibino, Chukotka

Bilibino, one of Chukotka's Arctic cities, is host to the world's most northerly nuclear power plant, built in 1973. To attract workers and their families to this isolated location, wages were set several times higher than in the rest of Russia,

with employees offered free vacations and early retirement.
