The Kupol mine is a joint venture between a Canadian mining company and the Chukotka regional government. Scheduled for completion in 2008, it will employ 600 people earning wages at the high end of the local pay scale. Alex Anishenko
works as a translator for the Canadian management and the Russian miners and geologists.
