Yakutsk, Sakha Republic

Lenin is a constant presence in most Russian towns, usually presiding over Ploschad Lenina ('Lenina Square'). In granite, marble, bronze or silver, he comes with a range of personas: the contemplative intellectual, the energetic motivator, the great statesman or the humble proletarian, cap in hand. In Yakutsk's Ploschad Lenina, he holds his right arm outwards in a gesture of visionary leadership.
