Victory Day parade, Lenin Square, Yekaterinburg

On 9th May each year Russia celebrates its victory over Nazi Germany in the 'Great Patriotic War'. This is the most sacred public holiday in Russia when the nation honours the 20 million Soviets who died. World War II turned Yekaterinburg

into a major industrial centre with military factories built to aid the war effort.
