Volga River, Saratov

From Soviet times until 1922, Saratov was a closed city, strictly off limits to all foreigners. Situated on the Volga River, it is a major centre for the manufacturing of military aircraft. It was the home of the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin,

and a key location in the Soviet space programme.
