Entry 365 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Small campaign button on Lincoln and Hamlin running in 1860 for Pres. and Vice Pres. Lincoln has no beard, which was case until he went to White House. Nice little Ferrotype 7/8 inch in diam. Has pressed brass border, pewter back. Has few scratches, but very good likeness of both. Taken from photo by H.H. Cole, Peoria, Ill. 1859. ($2.00) This Lincoln campaign button was the first or forerunner of campaign buttons. (2.00) This is worth $15.00 (1940)
