Inscriptions Typed in ink on slip of paper placed behind photograph: The rear of the White House, facing the gardens and teh Washington Monument, Washington, D.C. Taken by someone about 1930 and before the balcony was added on the second floor back of teh pillars. The balcony connects with the Presidential quarters, and is over the drive to the rear entrance. The architects of the Truman adminsitration claimed it had been designed for such a balcony. The rail is, I believe, of wraught iron. Probably slight changes were made such as making a door out of the large center window.
