Inscriptions verso-(printed label) "Church of St. Ouen, Rouen (The Facade). Mr.
Fergusson, in his 'Handbook of Architecture,' pronounces the Church of
St. Ouen to have been 'beyond comparison the most beautiful and
perfect of the abbey edifices of France'. It was commenced as early as
1318, but, owing to the interruption of the English wars, it was not
finally completed until the early part of the sixteenth century. The
accomplished photographer, Mr. Howlett, to whom we are indebted for
this picture, and whose beautiful views of St. Ouen of a larger size..
