Truancy, or absence from school is multiplying on many \ levels, either due to the fact of confusion or boredom or the anxieties attributed \ to their family stress. A lot of the children who "play truant" come from \ working class families or unskilled homes, where parents and children are \ suffering from boredom. Some cases are perhaps due to the failure of personality \ integration or the fears of bullying from teachers or other children. This \ problem is causing wide anxieties among the educational authorities and \ urban planners. \ Photos by Leonard Freed/MAGNUM Photos.; inscribed in pencil on verso, LC: 1974 [underlined]; stamped in black ink on verso, C: VINTAGE PRINT \ ©Leonard Freed-Magnum [upside-down]; inscribed in pencil on verso, BC: NEAR MANCHESTER, ENGLAND \ LOCAL CHILDREN HELP FARMER PICK POTATOES. \ WITH THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN THE WORK WOULD \ NEVER GET DONE. \ FROM THE STORY "STORY TRUANTS" [upside-down]; stamped in black ink on verso, BC: © Leonard Freed-Magnum; inscribed in pencil on verso, LB: LFENG-59 3000
