He first visited South Vietnam in 1956 as a graduate \ student from the University of Chicago who came to the Asian country \ with a group from Michigan State University. The group was to advise \ South Vietnam's leader, Ngo Dinh Diem. In 1956, Hickey says, South Vietnam \ was peaceful. He fears that the ceasefire will be a violent one.
