Inscriptions Printed in gold on mount verso. OA: St. Louis, Feb. 28, 1878. \ Messrs. S.B. VanNortwick. W.F. Coleman, H.W. \ Corwin, W.H. Hornbeck, J.J. Terwilliger, W. \ F. Casey, and others. \ Gentleman: It is hardly necessary to say \ that I was very agreeably surprised upon receipt of \ your elegant present. \ It is particularly agreeable to find that the old \ adage, "out of sight, out of mind," did not apply in \ this case. \ I assure you that you have not been forgotten \ by me and that I shall always remember my con- \ nection with the employees of the Eastern Division \ and Branches with pleasure. \ Supposing that all did not have the opportunity \ to see the present you sent, I take this method of \ sending you a copy of it. \ Thanking you all for your kind remembrance \ and beautiful present, \ I remain, very truly yours, \ M.G. B[illegible]
