Mayor Gaynor's assailant being taken from the scene of the shooting

Gallagher, The discharged dock watchman, who shot the Mayor for a fancied grievance, is here seen, grey-haired and hatless, and in the grasp of "Big Bill" Edwards, New York's street-cleaning commissioner. Mr. Edwards was beside Mayor Gaynor at the moment of the assault, and it was he who knocked Gallagher down and disarmed him, receiving a bullet wound in the arm during the struggle.
