Typed in black on applied label on mount recto, BC: X-ray photograph of an oak panel with portrait \ claimed to represent Sir Francis Bacon. \ It was neither Sir Francis Bacon nor genuine, \ but a rather recently painted likeness of King \ James, superimposed on an old portrait, not \ without merit, of an unknown man. \ The latter image was revealed by X-ray.
