Entry 768 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Large early photograph of a family group painting of the Lincoln’s and two of their 4 sons, by Francis B. Carpenter, who used photo of Lincoln & “Tad” taken by Brady, Feb. 9, 1864, as a model. Figures of Mrs. Lincoln & Robert painted from life. Carpenter lived in White House 6 months while doing this painting. I have book by Carpenter telling about these months, “Six Months at the White House”
