Many stories of the heroism of our aircraft carrier/ crews and the Navy pilots who fly the carrier's planes have come/ out of the Pacific Theater of war but this little drama told in/ pictures gives a new meaning to the word courage./
Photo No. 1-- A Navy pilot lands his Corsair F4U aboard/ the carrier with a full belly tank of gasoline. The tank breaks/ loose and rolls on the deck, catching fire./
Photo No. 2-- The plane is quickly engulfed by the flames/ as the fire fighter crew goes into action in a daraing attempt to save/ the pilot./
Photo No. 3-- Within a few minutes the trained crew is/ in action with its fire fighting apparatus. The terrific heat keeps/ the crew at a distance but already the fire is being brought under/ control.
Photo No. 4-- With the flames about the plane extinguished,/ the crew continues to pour water and chemicals on to the burning deck./
Photo No. 5-- Another job well done for our carrier fire/ fighters. Note that both the tires of the plane were undamaged. The/ pilot, depsite the heroic attempt of the crew to save him, died in/ the flames./
